The Objective of This Post is to Explain the Importance of Objectives

Sometimes all I want to do is write about the fact that my wife's cat's sole purpose is to annoy me. Other times all i want to do is write about how Rabbits will one day rise up against mankind and start a revolution (True Story).

And while both of these subjects have been covered on other blog sites by your's truly the subject matter is not relevant here because the objective of this post is to explain the importance of objectives.

Salmon Always Swim

Against the cold mountain stream

Just to die alone.

Writing offbeat haikus is one of my favorite past times...but again...wasting space with haikus here would be detrimental to my main objective with this post.

In fact, there are numerous things that run through my mind while writing copy during the day including the probablity of extraterestrial existence (I'm sure they exist but I don't think they visit earth), what would happen if actual farmers quit farming because they were too interested in Farmville (massive food shortages and the collapse of the sunscreen industry) and whether or not I could survive a full-on Great White attack (absolutely!).

Unfortunately none of these senerios belong in my copy or in this blog post, where the objective is to explain the importance of objectives.

Seriously though, it is important to think about what you're writing before placing fingetip to key and decide what the objective of your future masterpiece needs to be. Sometimes this objective is clearly made by the client and sometimes you have to figure it out for yourself.

Whatever the case, just make sure your mind doesn't trail off subject, leaving you susceptible to writing about Bigfeet and the like.
