Children mimic what they see. There are many cultures where drinking alcohol is not only accepted, but welcomed around children. Difficulty walking, blurred vision, slurred speech, slowed reaction times and impaired memory are just some of the effects of drinking. Some of these effects occur only after one or two drinks. Can we really condone drinking around our children? Besides, children have a way of keeping you on your toes.
Imagine an accident around the house and you have to respond quickly; can you do that intoxicated?
Not to the best of your ability. Do you want to be at your absolute best if an accident occurred? I’m guessing you are shaking your head yes right now. How is that possible if you are drunk? It’s not possible. Remember what you are teaching your children when you consume alcohol in their presence. Ask yourself that reoccurring question, “Am I doing this out of love for my family?”
