Pros & Cons of Applying for Social Security Disability

In a Nutshell:

Pros:

You will have steady dependable income to pay your bills if you cannot work

You receive Medicare Insurance coverage after a couple of months of being approved for Social Security Disability to cover at least 80 percent your doctor visits and tests after being approved.

Cons:

You only recieve a percentage of what you earned at your last job (s) during the past 10 years, so it's not likely that you'll be living "high on the hog".

You must notify Social Security Disability if you condition changes, and/or if you work and earn more than a certain amount (check with your own state's regulations)

BUT NOTE:

If Social Security learns that you have worked, even if you received not nearly enough to survive, they may review your case, and you could possibly lose your benefits, EVEN IF YOU MADE LESS THAN THE ALLOWED AMOUNT OF MONEY. (I am living proof of this.)
