George Sayour
Kayaking Guru

I’ve been paddling kayaks for over 18 years now and I am a member of both American Whitewater (AW) and the American Canoe Association (ACA). My kayaking exploits have taken me to 25 states and 3 countries. While whitewater kayaking is my passion, living in Fort Lauderdale, FL has me paddling more serene and tropical ecosystems.

Having earned my degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Human Factors in Design (ergonomics), I am acutely aware of the importance of gear design and proper kayaking technique as they relate to paddler comfort, recovery, and effectiveness.

I’ve written for a number of publications, have 4 books to my credit, and am the “Paddling” writer and content manager for the NY Times’ owned About.com website (http://paddling.about.com). Additionally I am an “Active Member” of both the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and the Florida Outdoor Writers Association (FOWA).

I truly believe that there is something both elegant and powerful about floating just inches above the surface of the water in a kayak. It is my wish to share this experience with all who are interested and I’ve been doing so for the better part of a decade.
