Lisa Smith
Expert Guru

Hi!
My name is Lisa Smith and I'm known as the "funny writer" here at LifeTips. Of course, I can write just about anything with a little research under my belt. Given the opportunity, I'd rather be funny.
Humor gets people's attention. It releases emotions that free people up to think in new ways. When I write humorous tips, I poke fun at situations or circumstances, never directly at people. A little self-deprecating humor tends to be sprinkled into my work as well.
I thoroughly enjoy making people laugh. It's little like being a holistic practitioner without a license. It's safe to practice "humor therapy" on anybody and there's no risk of a lawsuit.
I work full-time for the Nova Scotia Community College as a Training Associate. I love what I do, but I'd rather be writing.

Testimonial
This is a great site and a great place for writers to focus on and share their own unique expertise.
Interview
What books have most influenced your life? When I was an adolescent, I devoured Nancy Drew mysteries. They kept me on the edge! Now, any books that speak to the human spirit move me, whether fiction or non-fiction. I particularly love Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Deepak Chopra.
Who are your favorite music artists? I'm into anything alternative or rock. I especially like Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Hedley, Finger Eleven, and The Killers.
What are your favorite websites and why? One of my favorite websites is www.wie.org because of the diverse spiritual membership. It's very insightful to get others views and opinions on things like reincarnation, the afterlife, religion...all of that stuff fascinates me. Other favorite websites include places to shop like lush.com, thebodyshop, and airmiles.ca.
Where else can people find you on the web? I tend to stick with a few web faves. I'm usually browsing for writing gigs, checking the weather, seeing what's playing at the local theatre, or checking my son's school's website to make sure he isn't lying about his homework assignments.
What are your professional highlights? My professional life at the Nova Scotia Community College has seen me make great strides in job advancement. I'm also currently working on a diploma while working full-time, and writing part-time. Writing-wise, I'd have to say that all of my published articles have been a tremendous boost to me. It seems the more writing credits you get, the more writing assignments it generates.
What advice do you have for the journey of life? Be who you were meant to be.
What are you most passionate about in life? I'm passionate about my friends. I have a close-knit group of friends and I love them to pieces. They're smart, crazy, irreverant, and I could not live without them.
What ticks you off? People who sing (badly) in public, people who hum (badly) in public, people who whistle(badly) in public, and people who drive badly and too slowly.
Any thoughts or ideas on living a greener life? Yes! Take every opportunity to live a greener life. Put up a clothesline and hang the clothes out to dry once in a while, start a small garden if you can and grow a few veggies, give up the plastic bags and buy canvas for the grocery store....there's a lot we can do.
What would people be surprised to know about you? My friends see me as zany, off-the-wall, and impulsive. I think they'd be surprised to know about the struggles I've had with depression and anxiety over the years. It would come as a shock because they've never seen that side of me and, hopefully, they never will. Hats off to excellent medication!
Philosophy
My philosophy on life is simple: Live and Let Live. I try not to judge others because I definitely don't want to be judged. The things is, we never really know the whole story on someone. We don't know what came before, and what might come after, their experiences. So, it's best not to judge.
